Approximately 25 percent of all women and 15 percent of all men suffer from greater saphenous vein reflux, commonly known as varicose veins. Traditional surgical treatment for this condition is stripping and ligation. This treatment can be very painful and requires up to six weeks of recovery time. Now, Dr. Edwin Rivera, Dr. Henry Lusane and Dr. Amit Gupta are offering a far simpler minimally invasive treatment called Endovascular Laser Venous System (ELVSTM).
The ELVS treatment is done by inserting a laser fiber into the vein through a tiny puncture site. The laser energizes the fiber as it is withdrawn from the vein. Energy emitted from the tip of the fiber causes only the treated vein to close, while the body automatically routes the blood to other healthy veins.
The ELVS procedure uses the most advanced medical laser technology available today. The procedure makes varicose veins vanish without all the disadvantages of traditional treatments. In additional to the relief of pain and the overall cosmetic improvement, patients can simply walk out of the office and resume normal activities immediately.
